It’s no longer news that people who haven’t gotten their sim cards linked with their National Identification Number (NIN) will be affected soon, therefore Nigerians with existing SIM cards are to update their SIM registration details with their National Identification Number (NIN) and following a directive to suspend the registration of new SIM cards nationwide
According to a statement by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Minister of Communications and the Digital Economy; Dr. Isa Pantami has given till December 30, 2021, for subscribers to update their details or risk being blocked. Foreigners are expected to use their passports when registering their SIM cards.
How to retrieve your National Identification Number
The National Identity Management Commission has provided a USSD code for the retrieval of the National Identity Number via a USSD code *346#. The Nigerian Communications Commission earlier issued a two-week ultimatum to telecommunication operators to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers, as earlier reported by Naira metrics. Following the recent directive, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) urged the general public to beware of fraudsters and scammers who are on the prowl to swindle unsuspecting people. To avoid this, NIMC urged the public not to click on any unverifiable link requesting for NIN.
